Daddy's Business Trip from H-E-Double Hockey Sticks
Kenton left for a software conference at Penn State on Sunday evening. Let's just say it wasn't an easy trip. Here is what happened in shorthand:
-Kenton drove himself to the airport with 1 bag to check, 1 laptop bag to carry on, and a Target bag to carry on the plane with a few leftover things he couldn't fit into his laptop bag.
-Kenton got stopped by TSA for 20 minutes and searched.
-Kenton realized in the air on his way to Philadelphia that he did not have the Target bag with him anymore (contents included his external hard drive with a lot of web design info, his laptop power cord, and his cell phone charger...you know, nothing important)
-Kenton calls me around 10:00 pm when he lands to tell me to call Indianapolis airport to find the missing Target bag. I called everyone I could think of and it had not been turned in.
In the meantime...
-Kenton finds out his flight to State College, PA is cancelled and he is stuck in Philadelphia. He decides to rent a car to drive the remaining 3.5 hours, but then finds out he can't get his checked luggage because it is temporarily lost. One very nice man from TSA goes wading through a sea of bags trying to find his, but no luck. I am still trying to find the Target bag on the Indianapolis end and have no luck.
-Kenton decides to get in line with everyone else stranded and get a hotel room for the night and then take the morning flight out, making him late to his conference. He also has not eaten since lunch and is VERY hungry, but no one had food available. My husband gets grumpy when he doesn't eat, but that's a story for another day.
-Of course, no more hotel rooms were available, so eventually he decides that he is just going to have to sleep in the airport. Mind you, this stupid airport had announcements that were SO loud coming on every 2-3 minutes. We couldn't even hear one another on the phone. So in the end, Kenton stayed up all night talking to other people and attempting to sleep. Oh, and there were only about 3 hours left on his laptop (which is supposed to use for the conference) and he has a graduate paper due on Weds.
-Kenton calls me and tells me he doesn't remember where he might have left the Target bag. He thought he left it at security or at his gate, but then he thinks that maybe it is in his car, the shuttle bus, ticket counter - who knows.
-I go to bed at 2 am. Kenton doesn't sleep much, if at all, and makes his connecting flight at 8 am. He gets his bag back when he arrives at State College, PA (but apparently someone drove over it because it was busted).
-He makes it to his conference safely, but the Target bag is still missing. Gabby and I get up the next morning and drive to the airport so we can recover the Target bag...AND WE DO. Crisis averted. We go to FedEx and mail the critical contents (the laptop and cell phone power cords mainly, but also a few brownies too).
Ahh...isn't traveling fun?

What an awful series of events. Not just unfortunate...awful. Hopefully he is recovering before he has to do it all again to get home!
I would seriously have had a breakdown right there in the airport, if I were Kenton. And, if I were you, I would've eaten the rest of the brownies and would've had to bake another batch to send to Kenton.
In fact, I think I need a brownie after reading that. I think I'm stressed for you!
What a terrible start to a week! Hopefully things have gotten better since then. Not much longer until he is home, right?
Yikes!! I feel so terrible for Kenton! Hopefully your trip to the big NC will be worry free!
