She Wee-Wee'd All the Way Home

Tonight Gabby did something we did not expect to happen for a long time--she peed in her little potty. We pulled the potty out a few weeks ago (a gift from my cousin at my baby shower) and have been letting her sit on it in her clothes and just get used to it being in the bathroom. The reason we pulled it out was because one night she ran to the bathroom and kept saying "pee-pee" over and over again and pointing to the toilet. We asked if she needed to go and she nodded "yes." Of course she didn't do anything and was scared of the toilet, but that told us that she was ready to at least get used to the potty itself.

Gabby insists on being in the bathroom with me whenever I have to go and likes to ask lots of questions about what I am doing. It's a little weird giving a play-by-play of it all, but I do think it helps her to learn. The things we do for our kids. Seriously. Anyway, she recently became brave enough to sit on the potty with a bare bottom and tonight after her bath, she sat on the potty FOR-E-VER. Okay, so it was like 5 minutes, but I kept asking her, "Are you done yet?" and she would respond, "No." "Are you done yet?" "No." "Now?" "No." I finally got tired of waiting, so I just started cleaning up the bathroom, not really paying attention to Gabby anymore. She continued to sit on the pot, in all of her nakedness (it was really cute, by the way). Finally I heard her moving around a little and turned around to see her standing by the potty with her hand in it, swishing her pee around and squealing in delight. I was so surprised she had peed in there! I congratulated her and immediately grabbed her hand to wash it. What a weirdo to be playing in her own pee. I guess it is exciting to see liquid come out of your body when you've never seen it come out before (since it is always absorbed in her diaper)! We'll see if tonight was a fluke or the start of something new as we continue to "sit on the pot" nightly.
