Teddy Grahams Were Sent from God
While perusing some blogs today, I stumbled upon a contest sponsored by Brothers All-Natural and the Parent Bloggers Network for parents to share what snack foods they keep in their pantries. They are calling it a "blog blast confessional" as so many of us want to give our kids healthy snacks, but can't always stick to that goal. So here it is, the pretty, the dirty, and the downright ugly.
My daughter's ultimate #1 snack of choice: Teddy Grahams. She got hooked on the mini Teddy Grahams as a young child since there were so few small-sized carbohydrates for her to munch on. More importantly, she fondly calls them "bears." I can't tell you how often I hear "Bears, Mama! Bears!" during the day. They fit oh-so-well in her snack trap, too. I'm convinced one of the ingredients is crack because she could eat those things all day. They might not be the healthiest, but they are definitely her favorite!
A close second to Teddy Grahams is the ever-popular Goldfish. Gabrielle enjoys the cheddar and the original all the same. She never batted an eyelash when I started giving her the whole-grain version, so we've stuck with those ever since. Best thing is, every once in awhile at Kroger, they are on the "10 for $10" deal so I can pick up a bag of "fishies" for $1 per bag. Let's just say, the pantry is well-stocked when I hit that deal.
I usually try to stray from carbohydrates for the afternoon snack if at all possible. I have found that grapes, apple slices (sometimes drizzled with a little caramel sauce), and string cheese are our favorites. When we have playdates, I will cut up a variety of these things and put them in a 3-sided bowl for the kids to choose from.
Other favorite, easy-to-pack-in-the-diaperbag carbs are animal crackers, honey wheat pretzels, cheerios (our church staple), and Chex (except these can be quite messy). What do you have in your pantry? If you would like a chance to win $250 in grocery money, enter the contest before midnight tonight by visiting the Parent Bloggers Network!

Grace is all about "sparkle" crackers over here (AKA Ritz crackers). Not sure what makes them sparkle- maybe the salt? Both girls also like Goldfish.
I am not very good at changing up snacks. It's usually just crackers and cheese. I get so worn out from trying to switch up mealtimes that I try to keep snacktime easy. Thanks for giving me some good ideas of new things to try! :)
I hope you win!!!
Congratulations on your winning entry. Think how many bags of Goldfish you can buy now!
What a great post! I read this last night but forgot to comment. I'm so happy you won!!!
Congrats on winning! That is awesome! :)
Congrats on winning. Duly noted about the comment that you can buy tons of goldfish now! Maybe if we smear fig-marmalade jam and some aged cheddar cheese then the goldfish will be more tasty to us adults?
How is it that I am now just reading this??? Congratulation Em...that is awesome! When can we come over to help you eat up over the $250 of food.....that is wonderful.
When are you singing next? Jason and I are looking for a fun night out!
