Ants on a Log?

For so many of us, our lives are so hectic that eating healthy foods can take a back seat to quick, pre-packaged snacks. I try to get my kid to eat cheese, fruits, and veggies, but sometimes just getting her to just put these things in her mouth is half the battle. So I'm hosting a little contest to see what unique healthy snacks you feed your kids.

Leave me a comment anytime between now (Friday, Oct. 10) and Sunday, Oct. 12 at 7 p.m. (eastern time) detailing your healthy snacks.

I will randomly select 3 winners who will be mailed a variety pack of all-natural, freeze-dried fruit crisps and potato crisps from Brothers All-Natural. These snacks are allergy-free (unless you are actually allergic to potatoes or the specific fruits). No peanuts, dairy, egg, you name it! Gabby has tried almost all of their flavors and has eaten every single kind! My personal favorites are the apples and strawberries (the strawberries are SOOO sweet they taste like candy). And hey, if you don't win but want to order some crisps off of the Brothers All-Natural website, the shipping is free! How much do you love that? (Also available at local stores.)

We've had the Asian Pear and Apple flavors and I like them...Marielle can take them or leave them. Funny thing is, whenever we go to leave my mom's house, she asks for "apple chips". I have no idea what she means. I have never seen the other flavors but I will keep my eye out!

Now for our healthy snacks....string cheese, grapes, "strawbies", today she ate like six banana muffins, and pretzels are our standbys.

Fun contest!

Hmmm- crackers seem to be the favorite over here, but we also do apples, pears, cheese, grapes, and raisins. Maybe someday I'll be creative and make Ants on a log. :)

We're doing a lot of smoothies around here lately. We'll freeze some of them and have popsicles the next day. They're a huge hit with not only my daughter, but the neighbor girls as well. :)

I buy the 32oz generic yogurt in vanilla flavoring - the plain is too gross for me! Then depending on what fruit I have laying about, I blend it all together. Favorites have been strawberry-banana, blueberry, peach, pear-pineapple. The mango, however, didn't go over so well. :( Endless possibilities! And if I'm feeling particularly lazy, I just throw it all into the dishwasher.

We'll sometimes melt cheese (we use shredded Cojack) onto a whole wheat tortilla in the microwave. Roll it up and eat it like that. She and my husband love those!

We do a lot of whole grain crackers (the "All Bran" ones-they're actually really good) and hummus. Drained and rinsed canned beans, Organic yogurt tubes frozen into "yogurt pops", little single serving pouches of dried fruit, dried fruit bars, Fresh fruit, sugar snap peas, uncooked fresh green beans (he likes to dip those in hummus, too), whole grain croutons (he calls them "crunchies") dry cereal, special cheeses (like Dubliner) cut into strips. Then we do the standard Goldfish (whole grain) and 100 calorie pack variety of things as well. Great idea for a contest! I'll be checking back for more ideas. :)

We do cheese, freexe dried fruits and veggies (at trader joe's) crackers, etc. I'm not terribly creative so I am loving these ideas!

I call Max my fruit-tarian...he loves to snack on all types of fruit - especially red grapes, dried pears/apricots/prunes/apples, and of course fresh and frozen blueberries. I'll mix some dried fruit, pretzels and goldfish crackers for a toddler friendly 'trail mix.'

Our before bedtime snack is a fruit smoothie. We often have a hard time getting him to eat a good dinner, so I load him up with frozen fruit, yogurt and some protein powder.

Keeping fresh fruit on hand for Max's snacks also helps Chris and I snack healthy, too!

Whoo-hoo for allergen-free foods! I'm sure Ryan eats more healthy than the rest of us considering many things we buy for him happen to be organic. For both kids favorite healthy snacks are grapes, bananas, apples, crackers with sunflower butter (fake peanut butter), and mini rice cakes. Yes, Ryan squeals with delight when I buy rice cakes. It's so sad!
