Choices, Choices

They say that you should offer your toddler choices to help maintain control of situations without the toddler knowing. That way the toddler gets the option to make a choice and you can determine what she gets to choose from. After going to bed too late and Gabby getting up too early, I knew this week that maybe we were offering choices a little too often when Gabby said to me...

G: "Mommy I wan go downstairs." (early morning watching a cartoon in bed)
M: "Sweetie, it is so warm in Mommy's bed and Mommy is really sleepy. How about we sit for 5 more minutes and then go downstairs?"
G: "Mommy you have choice. Stay warm in bed or go downstairs n' eat bwekfast."
M: "Oh ok. Stay warm in bed."
G: "No Mommy! Go downstairs n' eat bwekfast!"

So much for choices. Pretty sad when your toddler is begging you to get out of bed. I can't wait for the weather to warm up and allow our house to be warm again!

That is an awesome story! I love reading it, even though you told me in person yesterday. I especially love that she gave you two good choices, and I love YOUR choice! :) What a cute, smart little girl!

This is so cute! I can't believe how big Gabby is getting that she can figure things out like this. I'm surprised she didn't tell you that she was going downstairs by herself and you could choose to go with her or stay there! Maybe that's the next story you'll have!

Ha!!! I seriously laughed when I read that! Don't you love it when your child can turn around and act like the parent? I also have to say that I love your choice! :)

Way to go Gabby. Nice job keeping your mom in line and making her get out of bed :) She does not need to stay in her warm bed while you are wide away, ready for mom :)

That was an hysterical story! I am starting to think between this story and the one Lindsey put on the board that our kids are starting to "talk" about us :)

How cute! She is so smart! I would have picked "stay in bed" too! I try to convince Ayden to stay in bed for a few more minutes too, but for some reason a 5 month old won't reason with me like a 2 year old will :o)
